ZUMBA

ZUMBA® is a Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and International music with dance movements to create an effective and exciting fitness class. Some of the rhythms include Salsa, Merengue (which is like marching on the spot), Cumbia, Reggaeton, Bachata, Samba, Afrobeat, Bollywood, Flamenco and Mambo just to name a few.  I play music from all over the world.

Zumba integrates some of the basic principles of aerobic, interval and resistance training to maximise caloric output, cardio-vascular benefits and total body toning. Zumba is more than just a dance fitness class, not only will it leave you feeling full of energy, but you will also meet the most amazing people who may become lifelong friends. Whether you come for fitness or just fun, zenergi classes have you covered.

Live Cost: Casual $15 or buy a 5 class pass for $60.   Kids under 13 – $10

Some typical questions

What shoes are good for Zumba?

As for shoes, wear cross-trainers or dance shoes – anything that will give you support. Just keep in mind, if your shoes “looks like a tyre” on the bottom (e.g., running shoes), do not wear them in class. You take the chance of injury to your knees, since you will be doing a lot of moves “side to side”. Aerobics and Jazz shoes are also appropriate.

Is Zumba a good workout?

Most definitely. Zumba is an aerobic interval workout. The classes move between high- and low-intensity dance moves designed to get your heart rate up and boost cardio endurance.

Do I need to be fit to attend?

You definitely don’t have to be fit to take the class. My classes are for all ages and fitness levels. It’s all about having fun and I encourage everyone to go their own pace. All routines are modifiable to meet your needs. You can step, march or jump, the choice is yours.

I’m not very co-ordinated, will I be able to cope?

You don’t need to be a great dancer to feel welcome in a zumba class. As long as you keep moving, it doesn’t matter if you start with your left foot or right. Just be yourself, have a good time and enjoy the music.
